Current Wishlist

In April, I shared some beauty products that I was lusting over. I thought it would be fun to do a similar post, with more clothing and accessories. Let me know what's on your wishlist right now by leaving a comment below!

Small (12x12) Wooden Monogram // You know how much I love monograms and I would love this for my dorm room. I would definitely paint it to match the rest of my room.

Elle Gold Earrings in White Pearl // I love Kendra Scott jewelry, and there are so many color options. I feel like the White Pearl would go with almost any outfit, and I love the gold accents.

Seaside Fotostrap // The camera strap I'm currently using is the one that came with my camera. It's probably getting close to ten years old and actually starting to fall apart. I think this one, made with leather and canvas, would be pretty durable.

Palm Print Logo Pocket Tee // I love my southern shirt and it's super comfy so I really want to grow my collection. This palm print one is a little different from the basic tees so I really like it.

Cathy Shift Dress // The only Lilly items I own are my agenda and clothing from the Lilly for Target line. I love the Tusk in Sun print and this shift dress is so simple but cute.

Pineapple Charm Bracelet // I really want to grow my Alex and Ani collection and would love for this pineapple charm bracelet to be my next one. I also seriously adore the Seaside Collection.

Whale Logo Baseball Hat // I never thought I was a baseball cap kind of person, but I found myself wearing one recently and actually loved how it looked on. This Vineyard Vines one is so simple and I love the color.

One Year Anniversary

This is so crazy to be writing. It's been an entire year since I posted my first blog post (Cadillac Ranch). I'm pretty sure about ten people read that and now there's so many people from different countries reading my blog. I'm so grateful for all your support on Twitter, Instagram and in the comments on my posts. I started this blog because I went on a road trip last summer and I wanted to share my photos. Now, Shutterblush has grown to reflect me in my everyday life. I've enjoyed setting up photo shoots with my Mom whenever I bought a new outfit that I wanted to share.

I wanted to share my top three tips/things I've learned as I started my blog with you! Whether you're just starting out or thinking about starting a blog, hopefully these will be relevant and helpful!

1. Connect with other bloggers. Read and comment on other people's posts. Join chats on Twitter and talk to other bloggers. My favorites are actually based out of England, but I try to participate in the #lbloggers and #fblchat Twitter chats weekly. There's a different discussion topic each week, so you'll always learn something new.

2. Plan ahead and schedule posts. I started doing this and keeping up with it in March. It's completely changed how I blog and helped me to drive traffic to this page. I now usually have blog posts ready to go at least two weeks in advance for Wednesdays and Saturday. I say usually, because these photos were taken three days ago...

3. Be you and write content you would want to read. Do your best to create original posts that reflect you. It's easy to look at other blogger's posts and wish yours were just like that. Most importantly, don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle. I saw this quote on Twitter a few days ago but now I can't find the source.

Feeding Giraffes

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Dickerson Park Zoo, near Springfield, MO. They have a really cool feature where you can feed their giraffes crackers by hand. Visitors are able to get really close to the giraffes, and see their super long tongues as they enjoy a snack. It was so cool to be this close to such an amazing animal. They have such long tongues and such long eyelashes too! Did you know that giraffe's legs alone are about six feet tall? No two giraffes have the same spotted pattern although they may look similar if they live in the same area.

Botanical Gardens

Recently I visited the Botanical Gardens. They are currently hosting a Chinese Lantern Festival in the evening but the decorations are up during the day as well. Everything was so bright, colorful, and pretty. I chose to go on a day when it is free for residents of my city and enjoy the gardens. I love finding inexpensive things to do during the summer. I highly suggest doing a google search and looking for things like this that you can check out for free near you. I get so bored if I sit around my house for too long, so I'm constantly trying to find something to do.

Disney Fashion Finds

It's no secret that I love Disney. You've probably seen my blog posts from my trip to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and stay at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort over spring break. You also probably know that I wear my Tinkerbell Alex and Ani bangle with almost every outfit. Get ready to show your Disney side with these adorable finds. You don't even have to go to the Disney parks to shop for Mickey and Minnie inspired clothing, accessories, and home goods. Let me know which is your favorite item by leaving a comment below!

Sea Urchin for You

In the summertime, there are so many markets featuring local vendors. It's a great opportunity to shop from small businesses and find unique items. Recently, I shopped around at the 'Vintage Bliss' market. There was clothing, accessories, home decor items and more with a vintage feel. Luckily, it wasn't super hot and I was able to wear my hair down with my Lilly for Target flounce dress in the print 'Sea Urchin for You'.

July Fourth

I hope everyone had amazing Fourth of July weekend! My family and I barbecued for and we went out to see the local fireworks. I met up with some friends and we did some patriotic flash tattoos, cracked glow sticks and watched the fireworks. Afterwards, we found somewhere to buy sparklers and I tried out the long exposure on my DSLR. It was definitely a process of trial and error. If you're trying to do these kinds of photos, I would highly recommend using a tripod so you can set the shutter speed at a few seconds.

I love this simple white dress, and it was under $15! It's so casual and I feel like I will wear it so much this summer. I will warn you, it's a little see through but it also comes in navy and green.

You may have noticed the bulky black shoe on my right foot. No, it's not a fashion statement. I fractured my little toe in the middle of the night when I was going to the bathroom in the dark. I can still walk around and do most of my normal activities, but it's a little sore. I also think this is also the first blog post featuring my haircut! I decided to get all of the ombre'd hair cut off as it was so damaged and just too long to manage during summer. It's so much easier to wash and care for my hair now. On occasion I miss my long hair, but I'm having fun trying new styles with this length and wearing it down way more often.

How did you spend your Fourth of July? I loved seeing everyone's red white and blue Instagram posts. Leave a comment and let me know!

Summer Bloopers

In May and June, I was able to shoot many more outfit posts than normal. Of course, this lead to a few goofy photos and some that just weren't so great. As I'm editing, I always come across a few gems, and decided I would share them with you.

It's easy for bloggers to give the illusion that they don't take bad photos, or that going out and taking photos for fashion posts is easy. It definitely takes planning time and you always need a reliable person behind the camera. Thankfully, I can count on my mom for that. From these photos, it's clear that I need to stop taking photos on windy days, or get a haircut! I hope you've enjoyed this, let me know by leaving a comment below and I'll start collecting photos from other posts!
