Chambray & Butterflies

In an attempt to find something new to do over summer, I made my Mom accompany me to the Butterfly House. It's just around the corner for my house, and free on certain days for residents of the city I live in. There were so many pretty butterflies and flowers, and the outdoor garden made for a lovely setting for photos. Also, did you know that there has been a major decrease in the Monarch Butterfly population? They have one of the largest migration patterns of any insect. Each year they travel from Mexico all the way to Canada. You can help by planting native plants from your area, like the milkweed plant

Weekend Getaway + Monogrammed!

// Large Duffel Travel Bag (Vera Bradley) //

When I purchased this monogrammed t-shirt, I tweeted about how I couldn't wait to share it on my blog. It's taken a few months, but I couldn't help using it for this outfit when I realized it matched my duffel bag perfectly!

Today, I'm sharing a travel outfit and a few travelling tips. I'm wearing a monogrammed t-shirt from DesignedDowntown on Etsy. It comes in seven colors, and the monogram can be black or turquoise. The best part is that they are only $11. I got my shirt super fast and with no problems whatsoever. To ensure comfort, I usually wear leggings when travelling and the biggest shoes that I'm taking so I don't have to pack them. In winter, I'll wear UGGS, but in warmer months I wear my converse while travelling.

I've done a fair amount of travelling in my life, but I always find packing difficult. I never know what I need, or I over pack. To avoid doing this, I've created a quick list of my top six packing and travelling tips
  • I like to plan outfits before packing, so I know exactly what I'll be wearing. This way, you can put the perfect pieces in your bag and you don't have to think about what you'll be wearing upon arrival.
  • Check the weather forecast a few days before you leave, because the predictions for temperature and chance of rain constantly change.
  • Mix and match items to create different outfits from the same pieces.
  • Roll t-shirts and other similar items to save space. This also helps to reduce wrinkles.
  • Charge all electronic items the night before you leave/during the day to be sure you won't be looking for an outlet at the airport or fighting everyone else in the car for charging time.
  • Put necklaces in straws to avoid them getting tangled with other jewelry. I saw this on Pinterest, and it was literally life changing. I've always avoided taking necklaces on vacation, but this made it so much easier.
  • Use small ziploc bags or tape to keep liquid beauty and toiletry items from leaking all over your stuff.
I'd love for you to share your travel tips in the comments below! Let me know if you found this helpful. If you'd like, you can see photos from two of my previous vacations in several blog posts from last summer or spring break this year.

See Ya Later Shift

// Pink Shift Dress (Lilly for Target) // Cognac Wedges (Madden Girl) //

This bright pink shift dress was not on my original Lilly for Target post, because I was lucky enough to find it when I went back into my Target a few weeks after the initial launch. I actually purchased it in a size eighteen and my Mom took it in. I called her from the dressing room because I figured that would be my only chance to have a shift dress from the collection.

The print is called See Ya Later, and if you look closely, you can see the alligators in the print. It's such a bright pink that I think it will look better on me once I'm a little more tan. I wore this dress on my last day of high school, which you may have seen if you follow me on instagram. Since the zipper has a little gold pineapple, I would usually pair this dress with gold jewelry.

I know that the Lilly for Target collection is beyond sold out. However, you can browse Lilly Pulitzer shift dresses here. There isn't one that is close to this shift, but there are several pink ones and several with a very similar cut and shape. Also, check back with your local Target stores, you never know what people are going to return. Instead of going to eBay to find Lilly for Target items, check Facebook groups, where people are trading and selling at reasonable prices. There's a bunch that are specific to cities or states too.

Summer Playlist

There have been so many good songs on the radio lately, that I've compiled a few I am absolutely loving right now. There's definitely a mix of genres popular right now, so hopefully there is something for everyone in my playlist!

You can also listen on Spotify here!

Note that the Spotify playlist is missing Bad Blood because Taylor Swift's music is not on Spotify. I will be adding to my playlist as I discover more songs, so keep checking it! Also, let me know in the comments what your favorite song is at the moment!

Introducing Kali

I want to start this post off by acknowledging that it, and any other content on Shutterblush, is not affiliated with or sponsored by the Saint Louis Zoo. However, if you've been reading my blog for a while, or if you have been following me on other social media (which you totally should, links are at the end of the post!) for any amount of time, you know that I care deeply about animals and the environment.

It's been in the news that Kali, an orphaned polar bear would be moving from Buffalo to St Louis. When I found out we were getting a polar bear, I was beyond excited. His new home has been under construction for a long time, but it was long worth the wait. Like I mentioned when I talked about Ginger, the baby orangutan, it's a great opportunity for the zoo to raise awareness about problems these animals are facing in the wild. While polar bears are not endangered, they are threatened by habitat loss due to melting ice in the Arctic.

Kali was orphaned when hunters killed his mother in Alaska. They discovered that she had been nursing and located the cub successfully. He was wrapped up and transported via snowmobile to a safe place. Kali has lived in Buffalo, NY for the last two years.

Reason 1: This photo

His new habitat is finally ready and he is out for the public to see! He still acts like a two and half year old, and seems very curious and playful! When I saw him, he was playing with a big trash can, jumping in the water, and standing up by the glass. That really helped to put in perspective how big this animal is. Kali weights about 850lbs and his paws are roughly a foot in diameter. The following photos were taken on my DSLR, a Pentax K20d.

Little Black Romper

This spring and summer seem to be all about rompers. There are so many cute options in every single clothing store. I recently purchased this black one, which is actually meant as a swimsuit cover up, from Target for spring break. It was so easy to throw on over my bathing suit or in the morning to wear for breakfast. I decided to see how I could dress it up for other occasions. Adding a belt and trading flip flops for nicer sandals changed it up nicely. I would wear this out to lunch or to one of the many upcoming graduation parties this year!

Are you loving the romper trend this year? It's so much easier to get dressed up when your outfit is all in one piece. Don't forget to follow shutterblush on Bloglovin' so you never miss a post!
